About MASFPS

EDUCATORS ARE INNOVATORS

The Michigan Association of State and Federal Program Specialists (MASFPS) exists to organize, unify, and nourish an alliance of individuals and organizations concerned with Compensatory Education. Founded November 3, 1969, we facilitate conversation and collaboration among member organizations and government partners. We’re active in the development and enactment of State and Federal legislation affecting education and strive to enhance the professional competence of education professionals.

We believe that…

  • All students have a right to a high-quality education.

  • All educators have a right to high-quality professional learning.

  • Professional practice is grounded in sound research and evidence-based practices.

  • Educators, families, and community members share responsibility for education.

  • Individuals and organizations can influence public policy.

  • Accountability provides opportunities for continuous improvement.

OUR WHY

To walk alongside educational leaders so that they don’t feel alone in their passion to help students succeed.

OUR VISION

MASFPS will support Michigan students and educators to optimize the use of state and federal funds to prepare all students to excel in the 21st century.

OUR MISSION

Build capacity of educational leaders to implement effective State and Federal programs to increase achievement for all students.

OUR Equity Statement

The events of summer 2020 have highlighted long standing social injustices that exist in our country. Unfortunately, discrimination based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation significantly impacts students now and into the future. The voices of many continue to come together to demand that as a society, we acknowledge the inequities and engage in conversation as to how we can move toward a more equal and just treatment of those that have been oppressed. We know these conversations are difficult as they require each and every one of us to examine our own unconscious and conscious biases however, we must all be at the table if positive change is to occur.

MASFPS believes that strength lies in the diversity of our communities, workplaces, and schools. Providing access to education is not enough. We must go the next step to ensure that each and every student has access to an equitable education that includes adequate funding, necessary resources, a safe and accepting learning environment, student voice, and highly skilled educators. With that in mind, our mission has been and always will be to continue to fight for those who are underserved by using our voices to hold educational agencies accountable in using their funds to address the needs of our most vulnerable students. We also commit to being at the table for those difficult conversations about race, discrimination, and social inequity. We ask that you join us as we move toward healing and paving the way for a more just and inclusive society.

“MASFPS has been instrumental to my role in understanding the state and federal programs for our school district. This is my third year learning with MASFPS, and I am planning on returning next year. Every year, I learn something new and improve my district systems around state and federal programming. Thank you"!”

~Basia Kiehler, Pinckney Community Schools Assistant Superintendent of Instruction (2022)

The Directors’ Workshop Series has been so beneficial to my professional learning this year! There is always meaningful and relevant content, great presentations, and a wonderful group of people that will always help troubleshoot numbers, language, directions, etc. I would highly recommend this professional learning series to anyone who works with State or Federal Programs.
— Elizabeth Jensen, Fitzgerald Public Schools (2021)

The MASFPS New Directors Workshop Series has been incredibly helpful! The series provides an organized curriculum with general updates, how to use the MEGS website as well as in-depth focus on rotating topics such as English Learners and Parent and Family Engagement. It has been a huge part of my learning. Thank you!
